Warren Ashby was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1920. He joined the faculty of the Woman’s College as a member of the Department of Philosopy and as Department Head for 20 years. Ashby was awarded the UNCG Alumni Teaching Excellence Award in 1967. Ashby specialized in Western Ethics and was an ordained Methodist minister. He served as founding Director for the Residential College (which was renamed in his memory in 2007).  Warren Ashby died on October 3, 1985.
